According to their draft accounts Bexley Council spent £48 million more last year than they did
the year before but their income rose by less than £12 million. Try doing that
to your household budget and see where it goes.
In a year when inflation was nudging double figures the staff pay bill fell by £8,634,000
which is getting on for 8%. Nothing was said at Council meetings about shedding staff numbers
as happened regularly in 2020 so I have no explanation other than that
offered to me a few years ago by a Senior Conservative Councillor. “I don't think they can add up.”
