8 June (Part 2) - A bit of self-indulgence!
I have been thinking about it for ages, but some of the
smaller blog images can be a bit too small when displayed on a mobile in vertical
mode. From today (and back dated to the beginning of June 2024) the smallest commonly
used images will double in size if there is room for them to do so. That is if they are
single images and not in a line of two or more.
Herewith an example. The top and bottom left images are from the same source file but displayed differently on mobiles only.
Some random text! e.g. My favourite female Mayor!
Single isolated images will be larger when viewed on a mobile phone in vertical mode - but not in other circumstances.
Some random text! e.g. My favourite female Mayor!
Multiple square images will continue to occupy about 15% of the screen width each. Multiple rectangular images occupy nearly 25% of screen width.
The effect will also be seen on a desktop if the window is dragged to the narrowest possible extent (crappy Chrome does not allow sufficiently narrow windows) or if the mobile is twisted into landscape mode.
The usual click to expand continues to apply.
Note: Some browsers will make a mess of this for 3rd, 4th
and 7th June if you have already viewed those blogs until it chooses to update its cache, or you do it yourself.
A vertical mobile screen is defined as anything less than 481 pixels wide. Old blogs will be updated if there is a reason to revisit them.
There has been a further small increase in mobile vertical mode basic font size today. This will apply
retrospectively back to 2009 once your browser cache updates.
