25 October (Part 1) - Just when you thought that road chaos could not get any worse in Abbey Wood
Here we go again.
The Sainsbury’s roundabout will be closed in all four directions next Tuesday
and Wednesday evening and through until 2 a.m. or later.
On the Thursday and Friday it will be the turn of the road north of the Yarnton Way roundabout.
Bexley Council is now hoping to get the 16 month late project done by Christmas
with oddments like landscaping running into the New Year. That’s pretty much
what they said about Gayton Road, work there officially finished there last
February but
the job is still not completed.
Here’s a few words from Bexley Council’s official announcement.
Sainsbury’s Roundabout
Resurfacing work will take place at Sainsbury’s roundabout
at the junction of Lensbury Way/Harrow Manorway. The roundabout will be closed
in all directions. Traffic will be diverted via Knee Hill, Abbey Wood Road,
Abbey Road, Gilbert Road, Lower Road, Picardy Manorway and Yarnton Way.
There will be no entry to the Sainsbury’s car park. Vehicles that are already parked
in the store car park will be able to leave, but exiting may be slower than
normal. The section of road outside Sainsbury’s will remain open and accessible
for traffic travelling from Abbey Wood station. Drivers will be able to access
Overton Road, the BP garage and the front of Sainsbury’s. Sainsbury’s and the BP
garage will be open as usual. Special access will be provided for residents in Lensbury Way from the Eynsham Drive/Yarnton Way roundabout.
Harrow Manorway
Work will take place to resurface Harrow Manorway northbound between the Harrow
Manorway/Yarnton Way roundabout and just before the Harrow Manorway/Ampleforth
Road access. Traffic will be diverted via Yarnton Way and Eastern Way. Access to
Godstow Road/Sewell Road will be maintained via Eynsham Drive and Grovebury Road.
