15 December (Part 1) - Foxton’s blocked
There has been a small number of enquiries this week about the old Blockbuster store in
Sidcup High Street and who might be taking it over. I suspect it is linked to
what has been said on Streetlife.
I am afraid I know no more than was said at the Places Scrutiny meeting last Tuesday. “The landlords of
the former Blockbuster unit are working with the [Deputy Director of
Regeneration and Growth’s] team to secure a suitable occupant”. It doesn’t sound
as if any significant development is imminent.
It could have been occupied long ago but Bexley council has twice refused a
planning application from Foxton’s, approximately the 350th biggest FTSE listed
company in the country. Their reason is that the application was contrary to Bexley council’s policy.
Presumably sticking gymnasiums where supermarkets used to be is fully compliant with Bexley’s planning policy.
