Teresa O’Neill and a team of Bexley
councillors ran Mayor Boris Johnson’s election campaign in 2008. Following his
success, Boris promptly dished out rewards.
Council leader Ian Clement was instantly made London’s deputy mayor and when
councillor O’Neill was promoted to fill the vacancy, Boris Johnson co-opted her
to his Outer London Commission,
seemingly indifferent to the fact that she worked alongside and should have
known about Clement’s credit card irregularities in Bexley.
Boris Johnson said he admired councillor O’Neill’s common sense and judgment,
like picking fights with bloggers she cannot win, and appointed her as chair of the Outer
London Commission.
This is the cringe inducing letter penned by the mayor. I doubt he would do the same now that she is more widely known.
