21 September (Part 2) - Golden oldies

Cliff RichardThe Summer of 1959 was a good one and from every open window the Light Programme and every Dansette record player was belting out Cliff Richard’s Living Doll. Not quite 16 at the time the song was imprinted into juvenile minds and, you can laugh if you wish, I acquired a liking for Cliff and the Shadows.

It’s probably why I bought his 1979 album Rock ‘n’ Roll Juvenile. It’s not all up beat stuff and a couple of tracks found success as singles. ‘Carrie (doesn’t live here any more)’ and ‘We don’t talk anymore’.

Not likely to be one of Boris Johnson’s favourite tracks. It’s a prophetic album predicting Sadiq Khan’s mayoralty. The third track is ‘Cities may fall’.

If I speak frankly, I must tell you that I don’t own any albums by Christian Zacharias.

(Whatever is he going on about now?)
