A Mini clipped the kerb and lost control, smashing through
the low fence made of scaffold poles and coming to a halt among the trees and
bushes of Lesnes Abbey park. This is just the sort of incident that was
predicted by the Transport Research Laboratory and which Andrew Bashford who is
in charge of road design at Bexley council said he had not considered when
redesigning Abbey Road. The emphasis was on responding to the cycling pressure
group, LCN+. Good job there were no cyclists riding by when the Mini ran out of road.
Anxious to cover up their mistakes before too many people
asked awkward questions, Bexley council repaired the fence within 48 hours. Note
the shiny new pieces of scaffold pole.
